On alert for the main fire station in Mülheim an der Ruhr.

An average of 82 call-outs per day or the equivalent of 3.4 per hour. These figures were one of the reasons for the construction of the new main fire station in Mülheim an der Ruhr. They emphasised the urgency of expanding the framework conditions in order to be able to continue to react optimally in emergency situations.

In 2010, the new main fire and rescue station was therefore built on an area of 20,000 square metres with an adjoining fire training building and training tower for the professional fire brigade and the volunteer fire brigade – and space for 80 emergency vehicles and around 200 employees. As the fire brigade also has to rely on professional and reliable safety technology, Teloplan Ingenieurgesellschaft mbH was commissioned with the planning, delivery and installation of the voice alarm system, which comprises a total of 280 loudspeaker lines in A/B cabling. The overall system is equipped with the necessary interface cards, monitoring of loudspeaker lines, interfaces, voice memories, error logging and a fibre optic connection for a remote sub-centre to reduce cable runs. Part of the task was the voice alarm system for evacuation purposes, as fire brigades can of course also catch fire. For the main fire station in Mülheim an der Ruhr, this meant, among other things, the integration of voice memories, which were also to be triggered by the station alarm server, as well as the targeted, operation-dependent individual addressing of the rest rooms. It was also necessary to connect the telephone system to the PA system in order to be able to make announcements from a telephone connection in the building at any time.

To summarise, it can be said that the challenge of the project was the large number of interlinked processes and the large number of possible variants. These required an extremely large number of interfaces, which had to be surveyed and defined as early as the planning phase. Demands and requirements that can only be mastered with a great deal of experience and effort in detail as well as first-class and flexibly configurable technology.
